Celebrating 15 years of service, Amy's Country Manor is managed and owned by Amy Hamann, LPN, and is registered with Department on Aging as a Board and Care for Senior Citizens. We have been accredited with the Tazewell County Health Department with routine superior scores in Food Sanitation. A Message From Amy My parents, Richard and Mardell Urish were the pioneers in 1980 of the small group living homes for senior citizens in the State of Illinois, almost 28 years ago. My father is now deceased but my mother is 82 years old and still operating her businesses.
My mother, is a registered nurse and served as the Director of Nursing at a local nursing home in Pekin. Because so many residents didn’t require the level of care administered in the nursing home setting, Mom and Dad purchased a duplex in my hometown, Green Valley, Illinois, and transformed it into a small group home for senior citizens. Another strong factor was to “size down” because the residents would receive more one on one attention. She did not want the reality of her parents one day having to move into a nursing home. Both of my grandparents, Etla and Earl Scott, spent their dying days at my Mom’s facility (Grandma was 92 and Grandpa was 85).
I was my Mother’s manager for several years and had the honor of giving physical, spiritual, and emotional support to my grandparents and others when they needed it most. During that time, my parents expanded by purchasing another facility in Pekin. As a manager, I loved the business and quality of life that our service brought to so many people. Our goal was, and is, to promote independence and self-worth to folks in their golden years.
My husband, Keith and I, decided that we wanted to pursue ownership in this line of business, so purchased our own group living home. Due to a family member’s health problems, a friend who owned a group living facility, in the country, decided to sell her home, thus – Amy’s Country Manor.
My mother and I have housed 100’s of people throughout the years when they became incapable of living in their own homes, but didn’t require the skilled care of a nursing home. How rewarding it has been to care for my grade and high school teachers and, now, relatives of some of our first residents have moved in!
This is my passion. I invite you to come tour our home and see, for yourself, the difference we can make in you or your loved one’s life.
Bless you, Amy Hamann, LPN Owner and Founder of Amy’s Country Manor
